Dudes With Beards Exhibition

In about a month's time I will have an exhibition for my "Dudes With Beards" project. I have selected the 12th of July as the exhibition date, so keep it open friends and strangers :)

A new friend I met a few weeks ago is currently busy finishing up my roughly drawn idea for the poster and I'll do a little post on that as soon as he's done. I have six more dudes to photograph and then off to the printers. Hoping to have that done a week in advance so that I don't have to stress about it too much.

Other than that I have a few new projects in mind. One includes creating a few more of these shots from my first blog post, here and then some other things I've been meaning to do, just gotta figure out how to go about it.

For now here's another photo of some sliced up pieces of the latest few guys I have finished photographing.

Beard Portraits [An Update]

So about three weeks ago I mentioned that I was busy with a personal project "Dudes With Beards" (or whatever I decide on calling it).

I was aiming to finish by the end of this month, but I only received my new gear last week Tuesday. In that time though I have finished one more shot and two lined up and I've added another candidate. Hey; these things happen :)

I am also in the process of planning a little exhibition for when I'm done, but more on that later :)

For now to cull your appetites, here's a shot that didn't make the final cut.

Dudes With Beards

For the past two months I have been keeping myself busy with a little personal project in an effort to improve, learn and better my photography and also create relationships with people.

I'd been wanting to shoot a beard project after seeing Matt Rainwaters' "Beard Book" some time ago, but as most people know I am a shy dude. So this is my way of trying to overcome this "impediment".

I am almost halfway through it and I'm aiming to have it done by the end of May if everything works out perhaps even sooner. I've limited the amount of people to 15, but I just might carry on adding to it over time. Some are friends and some strangers (who will hopefully become friends).

My good friend Ett Venter (who's a super amazing photographer and you can see his work here) took these "behind the scenes" photos and borrowed me, his camera and lens after mine was stolen about a month ago. Thanks for that dude :)

Here's a random slice of the finished shots so far combined into one shot. I am really stoked to get this done.

Everyone I've photographed so far have been amazing and I want to thank all of you again. The little time in front and behind the camera getting to know you guys has been awesome.

Welcome!

I can't even explain how long it has taken to get to this point, but I've made it. My site is up.

Wow! My own website! Who'd have thought? :) I am really proud and I'd just like to take a moment to thank everyone who have supported me. From kind words, encouraging me to do what I do, to harsh criticisms (mostly from myself) and everyone in between who has ever hired me, bought some of my work or just given me the opportunity to take their photo.

Now this isn't just a joyful post, but a roller-coaster ride of emotion :P Filled with sadness and contempt. My Nikon D700 was stolen out of my car on the 21st of March along with two of my lenses. I was really sad, angry and annoyed by this and decided to go out and create an image with my little old D90 to show how I felt; being pulled in all directions emotionally.

This was the result:

I created it in about 2 hours, from shooting to finished edit and I'm really happy with how it came out. Turning the camera on oneself isn't always easy and I had to go back and forth between the camera like 50 times. The final image is composed of 4 shots in total and me having to build in some extra bits that I did not photograph.

I'll try to keep future posts a little shorter, but just had to get some things off my chest. I am also currently busy with a portrait project which I can't wait to share. For the time being you can go view the first result here.

Welcome once again and enjoy. If you want to get in touch, all the info you need is on the site.
